Cassette tapes are pretty much out of the hip these days especially when going for those long road trips. It is more of an I-have-thousands-of-songs-sitting-in-my-glove-box thing waiting to be played. Sounds funny but that is the point. Today, in this world where convenience is very important, gadgets are converted into smaller and smaller pieces. But without quality, convenience is nothing.

Cd receivers have replaced the cassette tapes since they have bettered almost every aspect of sound recording and playback. The sound output recorded cd’s create are crisper and clearer, shelf life are also longer since putting these cd’s in a case won’t eat a lot of space, and lastly, it’s compact disc.

And when ready to throw your old cassette player and replace it with a cd receiver, what should you check? Reliable cd receivers need not be expensive. First, you have to set a budget for you to not waste money on high-end players that you cannot maximize. You don’t want to buy a dual payer playing both cassette tapes and cd’s, or maybe a really expensive one when you only use your car going to the office. Set a budget range and stay there, always consider your lifestyle and how you’ll use it.

Back to the basics

AM/FM tuners are a must because cd’s are still cd’s, hearing live voices are different. Good AM/FM tuners are important especially when you have no time watching news at home or you simply drive and spend most of the time inside the car.

Having an internal amplifier is also a plus to improve the music inside your ride. Dump in some speakers and amplifiers and you’re ready to pimp.

Check if it plays mp3 formats. If it does, and it is still playing in your budget, that’s a good buy. Mp3 formats are better since a cd can store more than a hundred songs the same quality as an ordinary audio cd making space for more favorite songs.

Most players have also remote controls for the passengers at the backseat. This is good when your ride is a van or an SUV to lessen those can-you-change-the-song-it’s-so-boring scenarios. Getting good batteries too for the remote control makes a difference too.

Check the warranty and manual as well. Take note that the longer the warranty the product has, the higher the price but have a warranty for at least a year is enough. Check the manual, and make sure there’s a copy of it that you understand. If not, make sure you know how to use the product.

That’s mostly it but if the budget is flexible and you are a techie one, checking out other features wouldn’t hurt. Some players have USB ports for mp3 players and other gadgets to plug-in, changer controllers for more than one cd playing, Bluetooth for remote playing, and others. Checking out some compact dvd players and LCDs for a full entertainment system is not that bad as well, again, if the budget permits.
