How Bluetooth Headsets work - Bluetooth Headsets and Car Kits
Bluetooth is a widely used communications protocol that enables data transfer wirelessly over short distances between various devices using radio frequency techniques. Having a range of around 30 feet and ultra low power consumption, Bluetooth is the most popular form of technology used to make wireless headsets for new generation cellular phones, PDA’s and smartphones.
Size: Bluetooth headsets are never comparable with regular wired headsets in their size because they require additional electronics and battery inbuilt in the receiver. Nevertheless, a plethora of small and stylish headsets are available in the market to suit your requirements. Compatibility: Before buying a new headset, make sure it is compatible with your device. Bluetooth devices must match their profiles and versions to be compatible with each other. Headsets for versions Bluetooth 1.1, Bluetooth 1.2, Bluetooth 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.1 are currently available. All the versions are backward compatible only, so look for the version your device supports before heading to the market. Features: A host of add-on features and buttons are available on many Bluetooth headsets. Button for redial, call transfer, answer, reject, volume, mute etc. are handy while using a Bluetooth headset extensively with your mobile device. Some headsets can be paired with more than one mobile device, which is useful if you carry a number of devices/more than one phone with you most of the times. Newer headsets come with noise canceling and/or DSP (Digital Signal Processing) speakers that add quite a bit to the quality of the sound produced. Battery Life: Like any other wireless device, batteries are a primary concern for a Bluetooth headset. Always check for the battery life for talk time and standby time of the device. Battery empty indicators on the device are also a good feature to look for on the headset. Additional issues to look for are the type of battery, time taken to charge it and ways you can charge it (USB, adapter, Car adapter). Ergonomics: Shape, weight and comfort are important aspects that should be taken into consideration while buying the headset of your choice as the device hangs from your ear for long durations. The buttons on the headset should also be easy to reach and remember. Headset manufacturers do a good job in designing them and a variety of shapes and sizes are available for you to choose from. Finding the best fitting one according to your ear shape, if you wear glasses and other personal preferences is not tough.
